Your first project in seven steps
You do not need a client or a paid tool to start. Choose a small practice project, set aside 20–30 minutes per step and save what you create.
1. Choose a problem
Example: a local bakery needs a clear description of its breakfast offer. Use fictional names and details and label the work as a practice project.
2. Write the brief
Define the audience, goal and one deliverable: three posts, a short guide or a checklist. State what is outside the scope.
3. Gather the facts
Create a table of facts and sources. Mark unconfirmed details as questions. Do not invent reviews, sales or results.
4. Build the first version
Use a tool you already know. If you use AI, provide confirmed facts and constraints. Keep the original draft.
5. Review your work
Check accuracy, clarity, readability on a phone and permission to use the materials. Record the three changes that would improve the result most.
6. Revise and deliver
Create a final version with clear file names. Add short instructions explaining how to use it and what remains unresolved.
7. Show the process
Describe the problem, your decisions and what you made. Present it as practice work and do not claim unmeasured business or income results.
You are done when you have one usable deliverable, a short explanation of your process and one specific improvement for next time.
